View Full Version : BD-RB Don't worry about initial audio

I'm posting this so no one else chases his/her tail for no reason.

I recently observed odd behavior regarding the audio portion of the opening credits of three unrelated Blu-ray discs that I had compressed using BD-RB.

The three titles, from unrelated studios, were "The Way Back", "Another Year, and "Biutiful" (That's the way the title is spelled). All three have utter silence for the entirety of the opening studio credits - a period of from approximately 50 seconds to one minute and 30 seconds.

For those of you who may be as impatient as I am, DO NOT IMMEDIATELY CONCLUDE YOU'VE GOT A PROBLEM ("Cinavia" or other) with either the original disc or the rip, or the BD-RB conversion, if you should come across ANY disc that starts with protracted silence.

Just let it play through and see if the audio starts after the credits are finished, or just jump to the end of the opening credits...

Some time ago I added code that looks specifically for audio blank space at the beginning of titles and adjusts for it -- there are quite a few BDs that do this. Some of them put an M2TS with no audio at the beginning, some start the audio with a very late Presentation Timestamp (PTS), while others simply put silent audio into the stream.

@jdobbs

Yes, I'm aware of that (I may have been the one who pointed this out, regarding "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") - but it's sort of the "opposite" that I wanted to share with other users. Some other users who, as I do, immediately expect the worst, may think there was a problem at some point during their work that erroneously created this silence.

The three titles I mentioned each contained a single M2TS for the main movie, including opening credits - and each of the the main movie audiostreams simply start with lengthy silence.

Another good reason to always check the original's playback before assuming there is a bug to report from BD-RB. ;)
