There are programs that allow you to start cutting from a certain frame, or time, but which ones allow you to set the file size, or show you how much MB there are at any given point in the movie?

I think overburning could do the trick and is a easy solution with Nero.

But if you want to cut use Nandub before mux audio and video. Open video file, open audio and then where you want to cut put the end of the file (is the right black arrow in the bottom).

Then mux them.

You put the desire size and the tool gives the frame wich you have to split.

If you have 711 MB Video an want make it on ONE cd WITHOUT overburning, you should reencode the endtitles. I have don that pretty often.
1. Cut you Endtitles out of the Vid (VDub or Nandub with directstreamcopy)
2. reencode endtitles (transcoding) so they are 11Mb smaller (9MB should work, too, since nero can write 702MB on one CD without overburning
3. Load main-video again, cut andtitles (mark them an press del), "append avi segment" the endtitles, load your audio
4. save the avi (directstreamcopy)

Important: point 2: Use the sam codec
point 3: main-vid and credits have to have either audio or not

A_pleite give good tips...

In many of my DivX i maximize the quality by cuting the end credits and so i have some space to rise the bitrate of the video.

Most people never saw that (End Credits)... and i'm one of them... :)

The end credits often have a nice sound track, that's why I prefer lowering the video bitrate. You can decrease it to 200 or even 100 kpbs.

Just use both quantizers of 31 on the credits and you don't even have to think about bitrate.

i cut/save the credits to a file and delte that part from the whole then save the rest as "main.avi"

i run the credits back thru divx4 at about 150 bitrate.

it will know about 80% from the size.

if you want to save even more use a bright filter and black them out entirely (sorry all you stars cast & crew)

open main.avi and append your redivx'd credits and mux the sound..

even if u black the credits...the sound track will still play out.

I encode the endtitles seperately, too, (If you cut them out AFTER the ripping, you may notice they have a bitrate which is about 1000KBit/s!) but I don´t give them just 200 Kbit/s (I like movies and maybe I´m abit a purist ;)).

I make the credits-bitrate depend on the size of audio+mainvideo. So If I have 100MB (always true vbr-)mp3 and 580MB mainvideo I give it a bitrate of 20MB-Overhead ;).

Maybe SAVE(Dvd2avi1.8x) will support endtiles, soon.

use nandub
set the end frame for 698meg
direct stream copy
save the file and it will just hack off the end
at the last keyframe!.....who needs credits!

I need them!
I sometimes think here are guys who know well about the videostuff, but a movie itself doesn´t seem to be important to them.
