View Full Version : Megui creates low quality
Hey,I have the same problem with megui like in this thread :
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127562
But for him he put the --aq-strength 1.1 --aq-sensitivity 13 custon command like and for me it shows error when I try to render.

Have a look at "x264.exe --fullhelp" to get a list of all availabe command line switches. --aq-sensitivity is not a valid one anymore.
And please post the command log of MeGUI.
EDIT: And update MeGUI to the latest release.
Hey,thnx for the feedback.
You mean this command log?
program --pass 2 --bitrate 10000 --stats "C:\Users\username\Desktop\2.stats" --deblock -1:-1 --b-adapt 2 --ref 8 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --me umh --direct auto --partitions all --trellis 2 --aq-strength 1.1 --aq-sensitivity 13 --output "output" "input"
And I have updated megui.
Is there other custom command line like that can give me high quality?

You mean this command log?
No, the complete log you posted partially in the first post.
Is there other custom command line like that can give me high quality?
Delete the complete custom command line, go to the first page of the x264 configuration dialog and move the preset slider to the right (selecting "very slow" or "placebo"). If required select also a "Target Playback Device".
The complete log :

And I encoded on "Placebo" and the quality is better. is there anyway to get even higher quality? or even the highest, even if it takes some time. and whats about the bitrate? I set it to 10000.
And I saw that if I change my profile (2pass extra quality) to HQ insane of something like that with lower bitrate I can get beter quality. plz help me :)

You haven't told us what resolution your .avi is?
try using program --level 4.1 --preset veryslow --tune film --crf 18.0 --output "output" "input" and see how big the output is and the average bitrate. If it's way too big you'll need to either drop the resolution down by resizing, use a denoiser or drop the frame rate down to a more sane level.
The resolusion is 1280x720.
And where should I do this command? in custom command line? and what about the preset, should I change it to other one maybe?

Create a new encoding profile, all those settings are on the first tab, you might need to enable advanced option for some of the drop down menus to become selectable.
How noisy is your source?
I dont understand what do you mean by how noisy my video is. However I deleted the last one and now im working on new one,and where is the crf? I dont find such option, and what do you mean with the input and output? couldnt I just paste the command on the custom command line and it work?

By noise i mean, the picture quality very clear or does it have some grain in it?

The picture is clear but with cc and some more effects.
ok I changed it to quality 18 and all the things, when I finish I will comment again.
ty for the help

Change the encoding mode to Const. Quality and remove those 2 qp entries.
How can I remove them? I changed the mode to constquality but dont know how to remove the 2qp.
This is how it looks now :

click load defaults and try again, i get that issue with stuck parameters sometimes.
Ty,it works I dont see anymore 2qp, I will try to render it as soon as I finish,ty for the help :)
I finish my first video after some time (I had not much time to work on it) and here is the video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsgzORVrlL8&hd=1
My question is,how can I get even better quality than in the video adove? I have seen video on 360p that have the same quality on my 720p video.
I dont have problem if the mp4 size will be around 100 to 200mb for 1-2 min time.

Are you referring to the video on youtube ? or Export from Megui ?
Youtube re-encodes everything with low bitrate. There is too much motion in your video to get good quality at that bitrate YT provides. If you saw other videos that had better quality, it's because the content is different. Even if you upload lossless it will look the very similar after YT trashes it.
If you play like a sniper (less motion) and the image quality will improve. If you use another host that doesn't re-encode or re-encodes with higher bitrates, image quality will improve
EDIT: it looks like you did something wrong with the capture or editing as well. There is ghosting (double images), so it's more blurry. e.g. did you capture interlaced and blend deinterlace ? or make speed changes with blends ?

It looks like a good 720p video. Your game is set with very aggressive motion blur and depth of field effects. This is going to be difficult for any encoding engine. I don't know that it will look any better, but upping the bitrate should eventually get rid of the smudging resulting from depth-of-field/motion-blur effects. I imagine the cost in file-size will be quite high and prohibitive though. Video looks very good in my opinion. What is the file size?
Edit: the alternative is to play around with some matrices. Something high motion. I don't know that it will visibly improve the smudging to the naked eye, and will likely make the clarity of the non-blurred stuff in the foreground much worse...
A better solution is simply to remove some or all of the blurring effects when video capturing demo's. What program are you using for this? FRAPS?

What do you mean by blend deinterlace? I just recored the frames with the game using command avidemo and then went into virtual dub and used lagarith codec to reduce the file size.
And I made some mistakes with the blur,my first time but I dont think the video is a bit lagging because of that.

As AMED helped me with megui setting (you can see his comments adobe) I dont see that I can change the bitrate,I changed the mode to targeting quality and then there is only "Quality" and is set to 20,so I should make it 25 or more or 15 ?
program --preset veryslow --tune film --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
Im recording in game with avidemo, command to record frames and then went into virtualdub. The edit is with after effect and sony vegas.
And I dont see lot of diffrence between the video when im watching it from VLC or when im watching it from youtube.
The file size is 58mb.
thnx for the feedback
Use a lower crf number for better quality. I do my 720p encodes with crf 18.
Ok thx and what If I lower the encode preset to Plabco or something like that instead of Veyr Slow
You can do that if you want, your just going to make the encode very slow for very minimal (if any) gain in quality.
