View Full Version : MadVR: Does GPU Antialiasing (or any other 3D setting) make a difference in PQ?

On an NVidia-based GPU, do any of the 3D settings in the NVidia Control Panel have any bearing on the picture when using MadVR as a renderer?

I am not a gamer, so I am unfamiliar with many of the settings. However, I understand that MadVR is a full D3D application, so in theory shouldn't they make a difference?

Thus I experimented with setting:

Antialiasing - Mode: "Override any application Setting" ("SLI 16xQ")

When turning on the indicators, in "Override" it shows that it is in fact performing GPU Antialiasing. However, "Enhance any application Setting" does not do anything.

Thus is this doing anything? Or worse, since "Enhance" does not work, could it be doing more harm than good by overriding any anti-aliasing that MadVR is doing?

Finally, do any of the other settings, such as "Supersampling" or Gamma Correction do anything?

I should note that the picture looks GREAT when I use these settings; however, I was already happy with the picture, and it takes too long to set this up in order to do any side-by-side comparisons.

Thanks much for your help!

Yes and since Vista/7 DWM this became more problematic hehe heya even Internet Browser are now in your 3D Presets and they can have an impact and im not sure how many influence madshi has on this @ all logically you would have to make a preset for the player you use madvr with though for exclusive mode im not sure if it has a impact and what overrides what and when. ;)

hm maybe anyone is able to write a kind of batch file which sets all those settings to a neutral state? ;D

madVR does not use any anti-aliasing of any kind and forcing it in can probably lead to weird results like blurrier image. don't do it.

There is not only Anti aliasing their are also buffer settings that could have a impact and what about Vsync ? together with MPC-HCs own Vsync ? triple buffering (not in the driver but forced externally) ?.
