View Full Version : Bug in x264? (--ref and --bluray-compat)

When I have --ref 6 and --bluray-compat in my cmd it appears that x264 does not change to --ref 4 for 1080p. Is this a bug in x264? I thought that the --bluray-compat should have reset the --ref to the maximum compliant value which is 4 for 1080p. Am I mistaken? I am using x264 r1995.

ok, thanks. So --level 4.1 (or 4.0) and --bluray-compat in the cmd will not reset the --ref to the maximum compliant value (4 for 1080 and 6 for 720), it's up to the user to select compliant values.

Erm, I have no idea how you reached that conclusion. --level wil set refs and that's that.

If you manually specify the number of references instead of using defaults or presets, then --level doesn't reduce them. Instead a warning is given.

I see, thanks for explaining. I had indeed --ref still specified (a leftover) and assumed it would be overwritten.
