4/3 23,976 fps on blueray ?

Hi all,

I'm encountering a damn prob.

I need to stay on 23,976 fps but the only blueray resolution in this fps is 1280x720 in 16/9 but i must use 4/3 :(

How can i save my day ? The source is in 4/3 so if i mod it to 16/9 i have horrible proportion result :( Is it possible to 'fake' 16/9 or something ? :confused:

Using avisynth would be so much easier:
FFVideoSource("path\to\file") #or other more appropriated input filter
Spline36Resize(960,720)
addborders(160,0,160,0)

Save and encode, no need of patched x264.

If Avisynth approach is not good for you then perhaps you could convince some developer to include ffmpeg's pad filter (http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC87) into x264 just like resize and crop filters were implemented...

Another option would be zooming into the pictrure to remove the borders. Crop bottom and top to get 16:9 display ratio and then enlarge to fill the 16:9 frame. But then you loose the top and bottom of the original video. Sometimes the original video is letterboxed 4:3 and then you can crop the black bars on top and bottom and zoom without loosing anything important.

Atm i try this in virtualdub (drag and drop the script) :

AviSource("c:\u\4000.avi")

addborders(160,0,160,0)

Questions :

You said "FFVideoSource" ? Avisource is the same ?
How do you calcul number in your script ? Atm i have a square (the movie) in the full rectangle (the 1280x720).
Is it possible to 'link' the script and x264 ? (i will need batch encode).

No.

720 * 4 / 3 = 960; 1280 - 960 = 320; 320 / 2 = 160

To encode the script using x264, use the script as the input file for x264.

My script name is test.avs

How can i adapt my cli line ? Sorry but i'm a total noob in avs script :(

haaaa ok, a question :

my source is a 512x384 and i need to put it in 1280x720 'fake' 16/9 with your script but atm i have black line horizontal and vertical, why ? Isn't it possible to reach only vertical line ?

The answer was given above... resize then addborders.

Unless your source is already letterboxed.

If you have some padding (letterbox) in the source video, crop it. Then see what aspect ratio it becomes. I'm getting a strange sense of deja-vu at this point.

All is working but dunno why, in vlc and mpc classic when i fullscreen my files i have a square movie (surrounded by black line) but in my ps3 it's perfect...strange

Your monitor has a 16:10 aspect ratio and your TV is 16:9.

Yea but in TotalMedia theatre on pc it's in fullscreen , guess it tweaks 'something' somewhere ^^

In case of 16/9 video and 16/10 screen try Touch Window from Inside/Outside in MPC-HC and you'll see the difference. My guess is that Total Media is doing this without you knowing it.
