MPC-HC and Progressive Playback

Does MPC-HC purport to support progressive playback of files?

To give an example, Firefox downloads files into "*.part" files. It incrementally writes these files as it downloads them. These files have valid video data in them, as long as the format supports streaming of some sort (AVI, MP4, etc.), and some players can play these files in their incomplete states. As long as these files downloading progress remains above the playback progress, the player can play these files seamlessly. Both the file and the player must support this for this progressive playback to work.

So, can MPC-HC do this? Do I need to do anything special to make this work?

MPC cannot do this. You can sometimes play the part that is downloaded already. But you have to close and open the files again (sometimes several times) in order to play more of the file because the seek bar hits the end. The seek bar never updates if more video is available.

Yeah, it looks like even with the LAV splitter, MPC still behaves like mr.duck describes.

Then did I not install the LAV splitters correctly?

I unchecked all of the Haali options in my CCCP Settings configurator and installed the LAV Filters, checking all of the default types. I also added the "LAV Splitter" and the "LAV Audio Decoder" in my External Filters list (in the MPC options).

No, it's my mistake. I thought I was using MPC-HC to watch a few downloading videos a few days ago, but I suppose I confused it with PotP.
