Interlaced cartoon - 50 fps

I am trying to rip an interlaced cartoon, and I thought I fixed the problem using TMPEG's deinterlace and VFAPI + VirtualDub. But the video comes out in 50 fps and was supposed to be 25. This is probably because it is replacing the interlaced frames with the previous frame. Sure, the quality is great, but 50 fps is too heavy on the cpu and filesize for 21:35 is about 240 mb. I would really like to make it 25 fps and probably under 200 mb / episode.

Does anybody know how to fix this :confused:

You are not giving enough details!

I think you're simply using a false deinterlacing method. TMPG has many deinterlacing options, but none of them is good.

Please consider using AviSynth & its plugins.

There is many deinterlacers for AviSynth like:
1) SmartDeinterlace
2) GreedyHMA
3) Decomb (seems to be optimized for Animes)
4) IVTC
...

All of them have deinterlacing options. Test them and use what suits you.

You can try framerate decimation of VirtualDub, there you can decimate by 2

I don't think decimate by 2 will be the right thing to do here, since it seems he's using a bad deinterlacing method or just separating fields or something.
So the quality will not be good.
That's why I proposed using better deinterlacers, that output 25fps and give better visual results.

I didnt understand AviSynth at all. I am a lazy ripper i admit that. Just want to do it the easy way. But doom9's guides doesnt say anything about the use of avisynth. I have done frame decimating by 2 now, and it looks, well i guess it is ok. Would really like to know more about how to use AviSynth tho. Each episode is 130 mb now. Just for fun : can u guess what cartoon it is ? ;D
