View Full Version : Unexpected extended filesize problem

Hi,

I use x264 r1995 x86 with MeGUI to convert xvid AVI to MKV. After some recent updates, I've started to face a problem. e.g. I have a 800 mb AVI and I set 600 kbit through AutoEncode. It converts audio as usual, 1st pass with ~150 FPS, but when at 2nd pass, projected filesize becomes 3,98 GB and FPS goes down to 14-15 and at time 2:23 file size is 71 mb (MeGUI says if I set 600 kbit, filesize will be 425 mb). I didn't have such a problem before, if it said 400 mb, the resultant filesize was ~400 mb. I have the latest updates on MeGUI. What may be the problem?

PS: I realized that problem happens if the AVI duration is longer than some length, like 45 min AVI is converted expectedly but if it is 101 mins, I face the problem above..

Hi ToyCar,

What happens if you do the encode outside of MeGUI? Try some other GUI that uses x264, or x264 on the command line.

Post the settings that MeGUI is using to encode your video

PS: I moved back to r1913 and no problems left.. Still, the question is what causes this problem after r1913?

You should use the regular x264. Not that vfw garbage.

There is something wrong with your input. Confirmed by the bold section below.
---[NoImage] encoded 152380 frames, 152.22 fps, 53.70 kb/s

You should open the avs file and check it's output.
If it's ok, I would suggest encoding directly with x264cli or another GUI as suggested by Blue_MiSfit.

You should use the regular x264. Not that vfw garbage.

vfw4x264 is not x264 vfw.
it's a small "utility program" employed by megui that reads avisynth scripts with avisynth x86 (via the vfw interface) and pipes the frame data to a x264 x64 process.

I updated back to r1924 but still the same problem.. This is the log from MeGUI..

PS: I moved back to r1913 and no problems left.. Still, the question is what causes this problem after r1913?

between 1913 and 1924 is a relatively narrow range with not a lot of code changes that would affect things here...
hmmm....
...
...
for now i would suggest trying 1922 and see if it has similar issues.

This issue happens if I open file through File->Open->File Indexer.. With r1913, I got a .264 file with filesize 7,94 MB after 2nd pass instead of 280 MB.. I used AVS Script Creator to open file, 2nd pass encoding continues at the moment with no filesize problem, so it seems the problem is between File Indexer and x264 encoder.. I get at least an expected filesize but since it isn't indexed, processing rate is half of indexed at 1st pass and 10-15 FPS less at 2nd pass.. So I think the issue isn't with x264 anymore..
