I looked really hard and managed to find a simple tool that split DV by date, but it has almost no configurability and I can't get it to split only by day instead of day/time. I have a video of a party that's in like 30 separate clips. I want to split the DV so the party is in one clip and events from another day are in another.

I have Pinnacle Movie Studio 12 and Windows Movie Maker right now. Help!?

Can you use WinDV, and set the discontinuity threashold to something really high? e.g. 8 hours = 28800 seconds? Then whenever there is more than 8 hours between two shots, the file will be split.

The other option is just to manually split the file into two, using VirtualDub (direct stream copy) or almost any other video editor (including Pinnacle).

Cheers,
David.

There are almost no settings of any kind on WinDV, but I'll look. If that works like you suggest, then I think that would solve the problem perfectly!

There are plenty of settings - click Config ;)

While our definition of "plenty" seems to be different, the important thing is that the feature you mentioned (which I had no idea how to use) works exactly as I wanted!

By setting it to about 36000 (actually 40000), there has to be a 10 hour gap between recordings before it will make a new file. And thus, my objective is completed! Thank you!
