How do I re-encode a SVCD to DVD format?

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, but what is the best way to re-encode 4 SVCDs in such a way as they can be read by a standard DVD player when all placed on a standard 4.7 GB DVD-R.

Would any of the following scenarios work:

1. Copy all 4 SVCDs to the hard drive, and make one big MPEG-2 file, and then burn this as some sort of super-SVCD to a single DVD.

2. Re-encode all four movies into DVD format, and burn VOB files to standard DVD-R.

3. Some other method I don't know of.

The only way I know how to convert SVCD to VCD is through TMPG. I just converted 3 SVCDs for the movie Blow. I orignally used Pinoys SVCD template, and I thought I had read in Antonio's post in the VCD forum you had to have a lower bitrate in order to play it on a standalone player which doesn't allow SVCDs.

But, Pinoy's Template (www.vcdhelp.com) bitrate is 2600 (I think); therefore, I did not think it would work. But, I tried it anyway. I orignally didn't have a standalone player so I created SVCDs for a friend. Anyway I just bought a Sony Dream Theater Package and it doesn't play SVCDs (not sure of the dvd model #). So here is what I did:

Under MPEG Tools in TMPG: Selected Demux, then Multiplex as a non-compliant VCD. Burned it with Nero 5.5 as a non-compliant VCD, and it works great. Took a whopping 1/2 hour and most of that time was waiting for my CDRW to copy.

Antonio showed me this, so I can't take credit for it.

I was at my friend's APT till 3:30 a.m. this morning using his dual Athlon MP 1800+, 1Gig DDR-RAM Ultra320SCSI hdd machine with dual 19" flat panel monitors in an attempt to speed this up.

He also have a DVD-AO3 Pioneer.

Anyway, first we merged all 4 SVCD files that we copied to the HDD. This wasn't a problem.

I followed all the steps from VCDHELP.COM...I demultiplexed the audio and video of this massive file, and then adjusted the sound to 44.8, and then "patched" it to the right resolution....

Whatever the next step was it involved some dvd authoring tool, and that's where the shit hit the fan. It got to 99% of whatever it was doing, and then gave some error.

So then we tried another dvd authoring tool, but it wouldn't let us burn an SVCD to DVD. (we were basically trying to make a special extended SVCD).

So then we tried using TMPGenc to turn the whole thing into VOBs.

Anyway, that is taking about 10 hours, so we'll see what happens then. We did about 24 seconds, burned that to a CD, and played it perfectly with POWERDVD3.0, but it wouldn't actually play in our Pioneer DVD/VCD/SVCD player (that hasn't failed to play ANYTHING yet).

Perhaps burning it to a black cd wasn't the best idea.

I don't see how you can burn 4 svcds to one VCD. They must extremely small files. I believe there is a limit to what TMPG can handle, as I found that out in the Green Mile. Why not make two files and try for 2 SVCDs.

If you already have it in SVCD format, why are you going back to the VOBS?

I wasn't being clear.

When I said make ONE SVCD, I meant we want to:

1. Take 4 SVCD files (MPEG-2, 800 MB each)
2. Merge them to ONE SVCD file (3.2 GB)
3. Burn them in SVCD format to ONE DVD-R (4.7 or less)


OR:

1. Take 4 SVCD files (MPEG-2, 800 MB each)
2. Merge them to ONE SVCD file (3.2 GB)
3. Convert them back to VOBs.
4. Burn as DVD-R that can play in ANY dvd player.

Got it?
