This may seem silly, but upon searching and reading all I ever see is about how to decrypt using anydvd hd, then imgburn.

Is there a way to just make in image of the disk leaving the encryption intact? I just want a backup of my disk, I will play it from the htpc through hdmi (with compliant player) so AACS is fine. Would I still need to use anydvd hd anyway to create the iso even with the encryption?


(And yes I searched, but everyone is talking about decryption and removing AACS so I wasn't sure if it was a necessity or a desired option for many)

You can create protected iso image file within anydvd and don't need to turn it off. However such image is useless if anydvd is not running when processing it further this include watching. Even If you will play it from the htpc through hdmi (with compliant player)

Too bad the studios made is so complicated. That means I have to get anydvd hd even if I just wanted a playable backup with copy protection intact. I guess the copy protection wouldn't be very effective if a person could just copy it to their HDD though :)

I believe you are under a misconception - A backup copy with copy protection still intact (.ISO or otherwise) will NOT be playable - but can be decrypted for playback at a later date.

Also, alternatively, you can use MakeMKV to create a FULL DISC backup with copy protection intact...

I've never tried this, I know it's not possible with at least some physical discs (like DVD-A).
