MeGui and Trimming

I want to convert an MKV to MKV and frame accurately trim and keep 2 minutes of the original file. That is why I'm re-encoding and not just using a tool to cut.

My problem is that I don't know how to do it correctly in MeGui. It's the trimming part that should also do the audio that confuses me.

Open MKV in File Indexer, it creates 2 avs files, then I have to cut both avs files in avs cutter?

Is this the correct and shortest way to do it?

And what if I don't want to re-encode the ac3 audio and want to just cut it?

Add the cut the .avs for the video file, then load the .clt file for the audio file.
The only way I know of cutting files without re-encoding is using MKVMerge, the accuracy is not that precise though.

Ok thanks. One question, I need the original ac3 file demuxed for it to be cut by Audio Cutter.

But when I use FFMSIndex to File Index, the option demux all track is checked but the audio track is not demuxed and as I said, instead it creates a second avs file for the audio!

Extract it using MKVExtractGUI2.
You will need to put it in the MKVtoolnix folder.

Or extract with MeGUI -> Tools -> HD Stream Extractor (maybe better eac3to extraction to avoid delay problems)

and after use MeGUI -> Tools -> Audio cutter (ac3 and clt files) to cut the audio without lose quality (without recompression).

Thank you guys, that's a lot of steps to do, why MeGui doesn't have a better automation design? I just counted that you have to do 5 things for one file before encoding starts!

1- Index
2- Extract Audio
3- Cut avs
4- Cut Audio
5- Auto Encode

Imagine you want to do 5 files, you can't easily add all 5 to the queue, you have to complete 1-2-3-4 before starting 5.

I also just discovered StaxRip, it's amazing how better it handles automation. It has the same customization power and you do all the work in one step! You just trim and add it to the queue. I just have a problem with it that it doesn't work well with NAS file paths.

I wish MeGui could do a better job of automation like StaxRip.

Yes, I agree that StaxRip is a lot better for batch processing. The only thing which goes a little bit in the direction is the OneClick tool in MeGUI. But sadly you cannot trim/cut there so you cannot use it. Otherwise it would be only one step without the need of manually demuxing, indexing, ...
