What is the best ?

Leaving good hardware like ps3 making some upscaling or do you think it's better to 576->720 during encodage session ?

Just let the PS3 do the scaling. Nothing will be gained by upscaling (resizing) your encode, other than a file size increase.

I thought it was better to 'not real time', it was more logic , other opinion from 'pro'/'experienced' coder ?

Unless you're going to use nnedi or something similarly slow, there is little point.

As it was already said, if you're confident that you're better than the machine, do the encoding, otherwise let the PS3 do it in real time for you. And once the PS3 will be dead, the next player will certainly be better in this, or maybe you won't even need it (who knows, 4k or maybe 8k will be the video standard by then).

Whenever possible Realtime should be prefered :) unless the Software is so good it would make sense to invest the effort into it and then their is still the question of would you even see the difference in Reality i mean realize their is one, so to say Sonys Algorithm should be pretty good i think it was investigated on AVSforum more closely and Sony is known for complex stuff @ least they have a pretty big Research part, still they let you cost that a lot in their Products, for centuries now :) ;)
