Does BD-RB support MKV subtitles or am i just doing something wrong? Made a BD-9 with subs successfully. The answer probably lies in the main thread but 11,800 posts is a lot to check. Great program by the way :)

Thanks for the reply. It turns out my players don't support subtitles in a MKV container anyway, so for the few movies that have forced subs I can use HDConvertToX to embed them.

The recent releases of VLC will display both embedded XSubs in .divx and PGS subs in .mkv and .m2ts playback. The thing is they are way less stable than 1.0. Seems like if I touch VLC while it's playing it disappears.

edit: I'm not sure if you're talking hw or sw players but I was also able to get WMP 12 to display PGS subs. I think you have to tweak direct show settings though. It's been awhile since I messed with it.

I have a new BD Player on its way that supports MKV playback. I'm going to check and see if it supports PGS subtitles. If so, I can add that to BD-RB. Up until now I've had no way of testing it.

What brand player? It will be interesting to hear if your previous full backups to BD5/9 play on this new player, and if it is as compatible as the trusty S301 and S360. :)

I ordered that one specifically because it is faster (due to the increased processor power associated with 3D support) and because it is reported to work with all formats (e.g. full backup to DVD-9) in the compatibility thread. It also supports Netflix, which my S360 doesn't. The S360 will be moving to the bedroom.

Please share your results. You might want to test some of your old, original BD-R's as well, as I have found some pretty disappointing news that I reported in the "Inexpensive BD-R Media" thread. :(

There are differences among the same model, linked of course to the intended market (US/JP vs EU, formely NTSC vs PAL :)).
