Hi all,

I have a very fast computer and i want the best video quality.

What is the best decoder ?

Thx in adv people ;)

They are all the same, because h.264 decoding is standardized. The only differences you can achieve are via postprocessing (like debanding using ffdshow) or deinterlacing and a renderer with high quality (like madVR).

So, if i want the best encodage quality :

Good source file
+
ffdshow filter
+
Good h264 encoder
=
Best quality possible ?

Are you talking about ENcoding or DEcoding?

Both :)

Both :)

As already mentioned in this thread, for decoding there are no differences, quality-wise, between the different H.264 decoders.

They all should give the identical output for the same input stream. Biggest difference between H.264 decoders is performance and maybe the presence/absence of bugs ;)

For encoding things are quite different! The H.264 encoder does have a huge impact on quality. And I can only recommend to use the x264 encoder!

Note, however, that x264 offers various options to tweak "quality -vs- encoding speed". And of course the chosen target bitrate will have huge influence on resulting quality.

(This means by using "ultra fast" encoder options and/or "ultra low" target bitrates, you can even manage to produce horrible quality output with x264 ^^)
