So, I was playing with dvd to divx conversion this past weekend. I have done conversion from mpeg files to divx, but never straight from dvd. Just for testing purposes, I ripped a small chapter from "Woman on Top" dvd using SmartRipper 2.41.
My PC: P3, 1 Ghz, 512MB ram, i815EP chipset, ATI Radeon 64DDR Vivo, SB! Live MP3+
The Flask is 0.594, Dvdx 1.7, Mpeg2AVI 0.051d, and DivX Codec 4.12.
I followed all the instructions specified in the different guides and got my avi file. However, when I tried opening it in the Playa, I got an error message that said something like it could not open the file from the file location. So, methinks it's a fluke, and tried virtualdub just for kicks and giggles and VirtualDub gave a message saying it didn't recognize the file format.
So, I tried another way, a long and convoluted way. I load the vob in dvd2avi with the intention of creating fake avi and mux-ing it in virtualdub. Guess what? didn't work as well. Virtualdub didn't recognize the file format. Yes, I have installed vfapi and ran the vifpset.bat.
As the last resort, I went the mpeg way to divx and that worked. So, the question is: what is happening here? Why the conversion from dvd to divx didn't work for me?
