DTS to AC3

I was wondering if there's a guide somewhere that shows how to convert DTS audio to AC3 5.1.

After conversion I would like to mux both DTS and AC3 5.1 into the video file. Is that possible?

Is someone can guide me that would be great. I did search on how to do it but it seems like these programs like EAC3TO seem kind of complicated and I'm really looking for something more simple.

Unless you're not dealing with something else but MKV, It should fit your needs.

Assuming you've got the DTS file already demuxed, I use foobar2000 for quick conversions. It's an audio player but it'll allow you to set up presets for conversions so that once you've got it set up properly, converting from one format to another is simply a matter of opening the file, right clicking on it, selecting convert and picking the type of conversion you're after.

There's plugins for decoding all sorts of audio formats, and you'll need to install some decoders manually for foobar2000 to use. In the case of DTS to AC3 I'm pretty sure you'd need the DTS decoder plugin, and also have the AFTEN AC3 encoder somewhere on your PC (for MP3 you need to download the LAME encoder, for AAC the Nero AAC encoder).

Once they're installed and the DTS file is open, when you right click and select convert, foobar2000 will ask you to point it to the folder where you've saved the AFTEN encoder files (it'll remember once you've done it the first time) and you can then set up other parameters such as the bitrate etc and save it as a preset for next time.

There's also other handy plugins such as the Directshow decoder or the AVISyth plugin which lets you play audio inside any file type via a AVISynth script. Foorbar2000 should also play the audio in an MKV, MP4 and AVI file directly so there's no need to demux it first in order to convert it. There's also a 5.1ch to stero plugin which can be used for mixing down to stereo while converting.

As I said, I find it very handy because once it's set up I can just double click on an audio file to open it in foobar2000 (or open multiple files), right click and select convert and it's done. Mind you the PopCorn program linked to above also looks interesting. I think I'll give it a spin.
