Does it really, really have to be 700MB?? Do you have a preference for AVI or MP4, or even MKV?

By setting the size of the video you're effectively setting the quality. Different videos need different bitrates in order to achieve the same quality.... a movie with a lot of action will require a higher bitrate than one with very little action.... therefore the file sizes will be different if the quality is the same.

If you don't really need a particular file size then it's better to set the desired quality and let the file size be whatever it will be.

There's a guide for MeGUI here. http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/MeGUI_H.264_Conversion_Guide_page1.html
and one here http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/me_gui_convert_to_xvid.cfm

It might be easier to have a read, run some test encodes, experiment a little and post back with any questions you have.

Generally AVIs are created using the XviD encoder. MKVs and MP4s are created generally using the x264 encoder. The latter should give you smaller file sizes for the same or better quality, but which you use might depend on the devices you'll be using to play the video.

If you decide you want AVIs and especially if you want a set file size, I'd suggest you use AutoGK in preference to MeGUI. At least for the moment. AutoGK will, if you leave everything in auto mode, give you the best encode it can for the file size you set (it'll automatically adjust the resolution and resizer etc accordingly). AutoGK makes it hard for a beginner to mess things up and it gives good results.

MeGUI is a nice program. I use it a lot myself but there's more of a learning curve. As I said, maybe start by reading the guides, experiment a little and post back with any questions.

Why not ask your Indian forum colleagues that do movies sharing how they did it?
Because here nobody will help you

I wonder what my post was about then? Skydiving maybe?

you have already 2 or 3 strokes, want another 2 for helping people with material against rule 6?

LOL. How would you know how many "strokes" I have?

I've seen no evidence in this thread to suggest anyone's breaking rule 6.

Judging by how you two have been conducting your loving disputes one can hardly be surprised that cerebral apoplexy would be the consequence.

What's wrong with the Megui guide in the "MPEG-4 Encoder GUIs" forum?

Why do you post questions about Megui in the General discussions forum?

because:
1. he wants to impress his forum colleagues with your knowledge and the number of movies he posted
2. because there it has been closed ->

PS: have a look on how yetanotherid chased my posts, then talk who's doing what to the other one.

So, you're about to have a stroke as well?

It's not me the one who decides on this issue.
I think the opposite is true, to receive the Medal of Honour for preventing him getting another stroke.

I laughed myself. It made me think of this song:

Do you think you're impressing the OP or anyone else by constantly advertising how self-righteous you are?

Err.... who posted in this thread first?
Who answered the OP's question, and who instead decided to pass judgement from their high-horse?
Which one of us thinks he needs to help the moderators?
Why not either answer the question or ignore the thread and let the moderators do the moderating?
Who recently asked a question to help him break the rules where he works while continuing to pontificate about the rules here?

Let's face it, virtually every poster here has been involved with "naughty video" to some degree. The OP made the mistake of asking about the wrong type of video once, it doesn't mean he's doing it again. Maybe if you strapped on a parachute for safety and climbed down from your moral high-ground for a bit you'd realise that in this thread the OP asked about converting a video without any mention as to where it came from, legit or not. Isn't that what 99% of people posting here do?

Will you stroke me now?
