Hi all,
I'm working on a (low-budget) documentary film, and am trying to dig out (read: deinterlace) the original progressive footage from a DVD. It's definitely not 2:3 pulldown, and I couldn't determine an exact sequence. Based on inspecting the footage and external data, here's what I know:
Footage was shot on 16mm in the early 70's in Chile, and edited partly in Cuba and Venezuela. (These are all NTSC countries, so I'd think it would be 24fps originally. Film newsreels in Europe were shot in 25fps, right?)
Released in 35mm, showing mostly in European festivals in 1975-1979. (so 24 or 25fps?)
Initial DVD release was in PAL. (I think hey just frame-blended 25p into 30i somehow, for the NTSC version.)

This seems like a task for a sophisticated tool like AviSynth. Can you confirm what's going on from looking at the footage? What's the best way to salvage the most original data? (Ideally the full-frame progressive film frames without the blending, of course.) One easy workaround would be to separate the fields and call it a day, but I'd be left with the blending and half the vertical resolution. Since this will be uprezzed to 720p, I could really use all the pixels I could get!
