Hi
I'm trying to burn some dvd's on a laptop - it's about 8 years old. They seem to get halfway through (which takes about half an hour) and then the disc ejects itself. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks in advance

I suspect that's your problem right there.

An 8 year old burner is probably fairly slow. Some blank DVDs require a high speed burner.
Without turning the reply into an essay as to why, some burners play with different blank DVDs better than they do with others. What type/brand of blank DVDs are you using? What burning software are you using? (yours is probably set to eject the disc automatically if the burn fails)

A modern 16x DVD burner should burn a DVD in around 5 minutes or so. Your best bet would probably be to buy a new, external, USB DVD burner if you're planning on burning DVDs regularly. Assuming the laptop has USB2 ports. I don't think USB1.1 would be fast enough. Alternatively try a different brand of discs. Something with a decent quality dye. http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

A burner that cannot burn 16x media would not equally be able to start the burning. The drive needs servicing or changed.

Hi!

It's possible that you're trying to copy a double layer disc to a single layer disc - or it's also possible that your ancient burner is only capable of single layer burning...
