I had the same dramas myself with the spdif out on the sblive..
Have you tried to load the ac3 file into powerdvd? at least then you can determine if your soundcard likes your amp. It should play perfectly.. otherwise you know its your SBlive..
The next thing then would be to try interleaving the ac3 and avi together.. if you have a 448 kbit ac3 track, i usually set the preload in nandub to 90 ms then set the interleave to 90 ms, or if its a 384 kbit track to preload 120, then interleave 120.. I'd say its pretty safe to assume that once you've merged the 2 files together, that it works, the only problem is that your soundcard don't like it. I know that the sblive has had all sorts of dramas with their drivers surround spdif out.. maybe you should try a range of drivers and see if any of them works.. The latest drivers don't exactly mean that they're the greatest..
