WiMP playback troubles

Hi,

is it possible that WMP puts some horizontal lines during DivX4 playback, due to a sort of unability to play it smoothly?

I mean some thin "liquid" lines, single or in group of 2-4, not too close to each other (not like interlacing stripes). They appear during fast camera movements, expecially vertical (or movements affecting some large areas of the picture), and seem like a damaged tape on an old 8mm camera.

They're not interlacing effects (PAL movie). I also made several (11!) tests with different de-interlacing or 'field swapping' methods to discover that the video wasn't interlaced at all...:)

The error is not in the file (moved through it with VirtualDub frame by frame and couldn't find anything), and it also disappears (or show up in another point) when one replays the movie to see it again.

I tried to play the same movie with Zoom Player and many lines disappeared, but others (less frequent) remained.

How can I remove them all?

A technical note: My PC is a 1.2GHz Athlon on a QDI Motherboard (VIA chipset?), 768MB RAM PC 133, 40GB 5200rpm HD, Ultra ATA 100.
The Movie is DivX4.11 encoded at 1340kbs (640x272 pixels) with 160kbs ABR audio.

i think i have experienced something similar to what you have described, if it matters it was on some deinterlaced pal sources...the last time i remember seeing it was about a week ago

not sure what i done since then, many things could have affected it (im forever tinkering with things) but i dont seem to get them any more...odd

i had a similar problem just now with bsplayer... playing the movie back in wmp8 worked fine though, oddly enough. i had horizontal lines during heavy movement of the camera horizontally that looked like choppy playback, like frames weren't being switched quickly enough or something and you could see two different ones in the process of being refreshed. i switched the overlay mode to mode 2 in bsplayer's preferences and that seems to solve the problem, though i haven't tested it fully yet (going to do that now).

Do you think that a lower bitrate in the movie may help?
(a more powerful PC isn't an option...:()

I put it to 1340kbs because, being obliged to go to 2CD to reach 0.20 bits/px*frame, I increased the bitrate to fill up the CD space (reaching more than 0.30bpf).

i don't know... i have a new athlon xp 1700+, and my bitrate was only in the 800s when i noticed the problem. plus i checked in task manager and both cpu and memory usage weren't taxed very much. i messed around with postprocessing options too thinking maybe that was set too high, but that didn't do anything either.
