Menu is crook

I have a multi menu dvd. The Title Menu has 3 buttons which navigate to the Root Menus ok (when I use the up/down arrows) but the problem is that there is no button highlights against the words. The Root Menus are good in this way.

With PgcEdit in Trace mode everything works as it is supposed to, the Buttons show a box around the words and in Button Edit it is assigned a colour scheme. Yet when the dvd is played there is no button highlights for the Title Menu only.

Is the VOB Cellid stuffed? Can I make a new Title Menu in photoshop and import it, or do I need to make a complete whole menu structure for these 17 Titlesets?

I found the Sticky above so I tried DVDSub Edit. It gives me an error message when I load the Vob, "Inconsistent data in subpic 0: unknown command 61. Ignoring subpic".

All suggestions welcome.

Try importing the sub in DVDSubEdit. If it can load it, you're lucky: go to the bad menu, save the subpic image as BMP and reload it. (You need to do it for the 2 or 3 subpic streams if your menu is in 16:9.) Otherwise, you can perhaps import your own BMP(s). (Not sure if DVDSubEdit will let you do that, as you need a subpic in place to be able to view/save/load it.)

You can also play with the menu Colour Schemes (in PgcEdit's menu editor). If you change the transparent colors to something somewhat opaque, your player will probably show a translucent rectangle over the selected button (covering exactly the portion of the image included in the rectangle shown by the PgcEdit menu editor). However, that might not work if the player wants absolutely a good subpic stream to display the button highlights.

Re-authoring the bad menu from scratch is certainly also possible, but you will have to create a working menu with any DVD authoring software, then replace the original menu cell in your DVD with VobBlanker. It's the hardest solution.

Of course, you can also try to re-rip the DVD.

Thanks r0lZ, I tried to rip again but still the same. I made a typo, I was using DVDSubEdit, it gives me an error as stated above.

I followed the guide and made a new .bmp for the Main Title Menu, went to PgcEdit and created a new cell at the start of the PGC (it was given a Vob/Cellid 75/1), then put it into VobBlanker and saved it to the same Input Folder (the path to Muxman is correct), also I blanked the original cell. Went back to PgcEdit and made 3 new buttons and navigation Commands. Testing the dvd is as before, the Title Menu is only a picture with no highlights (but that is ok as I hadn't put the vob into DVDSubEdit yet). Using the mouse I can flow to the correct submenu's.

Loading the vob into DVDSubEdit this time doesn't give an error but the Title Menu pic is not there to be seen, only the root menu's so I can't add any subpic.

Do not extract the new cell immediately with VobBlanker. Just replace the background image, and leave the cell at the new place in the VOB. Then, load the menu with the cell added by PgcEdit and modified by VobBlanker in DVDSubEdit. If you use PgcEdit v9.3, in DVDSubEdit, you should see a blank image as the highlight subpic of the menu. You can save that frame to disc, edit it with any text editor, and import it back in the menu. Verify also the color scheme in PgcEdit, as you will perhaps need to modify it to see the highlights. When everything is OK, it is simpler to just copy that cell in the original (bad) cell with PgcEdit: select the original cell, go to the PGC Editor, click the VOB/Cell ID button of the cell to replace, and select the new cell added by PgcEdit. Modify again the button positions and color scheme if needed. That should work.

BTW, is it a 4:3 or a 16:9 menu?

[EDIT] I forgot this: even without editing the subpic with DVDSubEdit, you can use the blank subpic image created by PgcEdit to create simple translucent rectangular highlights. IMO, you should begin by verifying if that part works fine. Then, if you want a better highlight, use DVDSubEdit.

What I am doing is, in PgcEdit.... Create New blank Vob Cell (at my Title Menu PGC of the dvd) .....then Save DVD
In VobBlanker I select the menu Vob, then Cell (the new cell created by PgcEdit), select Still, Frame Selection, import the background bmp into it, then, Apply, OK, Process.

It is at this point that I should go to DVDSubEdit? and see a blank image.

PS.... I'm using PgcEdit v9.2 and my menu is 4:3

Your procedure is correct, except that you should use PgcEdit 9.3. In v9.3, the cells added by PgcEdit contain two subpic streams, and you need the first subpic stream (since your menu is 4:3). In 9.2, there is no subpic, and therefore you cannot extract the BMP and re-import it with DVDSubEdit, and many players refuse to show the rectangular translucent buttons highlights, because they are picky enough to consider that a menu without subpic cannot have button highlights (which is wrong, IMO).
