I haven't done a lot of configuration with Megui, and don't know the ins and outs of video encoding like most of you, but I've never had a lot of problems before. I've always been able to take an avi or mp4 video and encode subtitles, getting a high quality output.

However, on the latest show I'm working on, there's serious macroblocking throughout. Here's a cropped section of a frame:

I've pared down the avs file to nothing but:

directshowSource("Propose Kyoudai ep01 (1024x576 x264).mp4")

I find the myriad of configuration options in Megui a bit daunting, and I'd appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks in advance.

broken directshow decoder. if you're on win7 install ffdshow and apply the Win7 DS filter tweak.

What if I'm on WinXP?

oh. play the avs in a directshow media player (MPC for example) and see if the artifacts are still there.
in that case, it's still a broken decoder.

Good call, Sharktooth! I installed the latest version of the decoder, and it appears that the macroblocking is gone. Thanks!!
