Haali unable to demux BBC HD h264 .ts since 22/02/11

Hi,

Previously Haali splitter handled BBC HD streams, however it is now only able to access the audio - no video PID is listed. This is the same for both BBC HD channels, but other UK HD channels such as ITV are unaffected.

Yes, I've had the same problem. It all went tits up last night (22nd Feb 2011)

If you use MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) then assuming you have a modern high spec graphics card try switching the hardware decoding on.
In MPC-HC goto View->Options and select "Internal Filters" then tick the "MPEG PS/TS/PVA" source filter on the left and tick the "H264/AVC (FFmpeg)" transform filter on the right. Then close down MPC-HC and start it up again and play the TS file - it should now work.

Interestingly if you try and play BBC HD TS files from before 22nd-Feb-2011 then you'll find the hardware decoding doesn't seem to work - you have to switch back to software decoding.

I wasn't sure if the problem is the Haali or the ffdshow layer. Both libavcodec and ffmpeg-mt fail so maybe the problem is in the Haali splitter as you suggest.

This problem also causes no video to appear in TS Packet Editor so you need to edit in blind mode.
VLC plays both old and new TS files ok without modification.

My old VLC (0.8something) could play it just marvellously.
The stream is ok.
tsmuxer recognises all the streams and made a test mux correctly. On my computer I don't have neither gabest not haali.

Firstly, glad to have confirmation that it isn't just an issue on my box.

Secondly, I'm aware there are other ways to access the stream - but I prefer Haali for a number of reasons and would appreciate a fix. Is there not a more official way of contacting him or submitting a bug report?

But have you tried to use a remuxed stream instead of the original one? Maybe the demux-remux thing will correct/clean, if anything wrong, the structure.

somehow out of topic, do you know of an equivalent of ProjectX (which really is good for DVB streams) to edit (just need to cut out commercials) and demux BBC HD streams?

Problem is I am on a Mac, and only find references to PC software (ProjectX is java, runs everywhere). Of course I can use an emulator like Wine, but that tends to run well only non-interactive software...

Remuxing with tsmuxer made no difference. Haali is still unable to see the video.

I confirm - remuxing the TS to M2TS (with tsmuxer) makes no difference.

Interestingly when running the TS through AvsP (an AviSynth Preview utility) using DirectShowSource to decode the TS file the AviSynth error message says that TS file is not in YUV format. MediaInfo says it is in YUV format. Donald Graft's DGAVCIndex and DGIndexNV seem to work ok.

Another option: use the ArcSoft splitter (ArcDemux.ax) :)

The fix works for me on all recent recordings and on your sample. You sure you installed it right, rebooted to make sure, the CRC for the newest Haali I have is EC9CC819.

?? Both work with issues, the post 22nd Feb stuff is actually worse since it is artefact ridden whereas the pre stuff just exhibited some occasional motion strangeness. Maybe our grpahics cards? I have a HD5850.

Yeah it looks like they changed a couple of things.
There's been some mess in the bottom right had corner since the same time, most noticeably a white dot, with some other bad pixels.
And this (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/473084)there are two flags on the recording, specifically 30 and 31 which
historically have captured the dimensions of the recording....in the
past for a BBC HD recording they stored 1440 and 1088 respectively.

In September last year the values changed to 256 and 1600 which didn't
directly relate to the dimensions any longer.

Over the last few days BBC HD has changed the values to 224 and 48 respectively.

The version of Haali Splitter downloaded on 9th March 2011 has now changed to v1.11.96.14 - this understands post 22nd Feb 2011 BBCHD TS files ok as well.
TS Packet Editor is now displaying video again.

The problem now is that the TS file is displayed with the wrong aspect ratio with the new version of Haali.
MPC-HC displays BBC HD TS files as 4:3 because the file is 1440x1080 but the aspect ratio is 16:9.

These are the version numbers I'm using (all 32bit):
ffdshow rev3760
Haali 1.11.96.14
MPC-HC 1.5.1.2903
Windows XP SP3

The problem can be easily fixed by forcing MPC-HC to display the TS as 16:9
I suspect that Haali is passing on the wrong aspect ratio (4:3) to the ffdshow layer.

It's just an extension to the "ArcSoft-4-eac3to" trick.
Secondly :), you have to copy the files

ArcDemux.ax
AS*Vid.dll
ASVid.ax
Active.dat ???
ArcCon.dll ???
checkcommon.dll ???

to the same folder as checkactivate.dll, etc.,
and register both ArcDemux and ASViD.
Maybe you'll also need to set the merit of ArcDemux to 0x00800000 or higher, if you have other TS splitters registered on your system.

And firstly, you have to force the .TS files to be "opened" with the File Source (Async) Directshow filter:
