View Full Version : Audio issue

I never thought that I have to ask for a newbie solution.
I have a clip from a DVD, it uses LPCM (music clip). I want to play it at work, where I don't have any rights at all, including installing software.
The only player is WMP11.
Now the issue. This player cannot play the VOB as such, but only after renaming it to MPG, in which case it misses the audio. It also doesn't play WAV files.
I tried every solution I knew, including converting the LPCM file into a MP2 and MP3 files. The files play ok, each, but when muxed into an MPEG structure the audio is again not recognised and consequantly played mute.
I need a solution that doesn't need to install any codecs, any software, only one EXE. No trials, no installs. I am not allowed to do this and the rights are disabled anyway.
Any solution how can I convert this VOB into a playable file under WMP11 (with no VOB and WAV codecs installed and God knows which codecs are not present either)?

You must use WMP11? Why not download the VLC (7)zip version?

That's why. I could bend the laws a bit to use one time only a converter, but that's it.
PS: strangely enough, WMP11 plays the individual files, but not the muxed one. It can play MPG files.

Does that mean that USB and CD access are disabled too, so you couldn't use VLC (or portable VLC for near-zero registry trails) , Mplayer, KMplayer or something else directly from them ?

At work I use MPC-HC running off a USB memory stick for viewing DVDs. It's most likely against my company's IT policy but I haven't been found out yet.
Don't hold me responsible if you get fired...

I hate myself the WMP11, but this doesn't solve my problem.
I cannot understand why the elementary streams work, other MPEG files work, but my muxed MPEG files doesn't (the audio is not there, in properties the codec for audio is -).

Well, how do you mux them?

imago-mpeg muxer. It's the only one-exe tool that allowed me to mux the streams to an MPEG structure (PS).

Can't you run a portable version of player VLC or MPC-HC from a USB stick and play the original vob files that way?
And I'm a little confused. Have you changed your mind recently?
1. never use a device for improper uses - in your case, don't use the PC for watching movies, it was not designed to do so, better use a standalone
Can't you take your standalone to work and plug it into your monitor? ;-)

It had to do with a project. Since the PC is for office work it doesn't have all the multimedia stuff, also the upgrades are locked down. For the very same reason no standalones are present. Do you have ABC/MTV/PlayboyTV in your office when you are supposed to work?
However thank you for repeating a solution (so that your post cannot be considered under R. 11), yet nobody thought we need an USB-stick to play MPEG-2 and WAV files.

if the wav file is 24bit or 32bit try to convert it to 16bit then mux and post the result...

No, it was 48/16 LPCM. Is there any muxer to do PS files? I tried to go through TS, M2TS, etc. with no luck. I knew it for sure that AC-3 was not installed, but I've got taken by surprise that WAV is a no go, too.

No, but then I've never handed out ridiculous advice along the lines of never using a PC to play media.

Sorry, I guess I maybe should have typed my reply more slowly for you. I was asking you why you can't use a player running from a USB stick. You never said.
Your mention of rule 11 was quite amusing by the way, considering the majority of replies you offer. Quite amusing.

Have you tried ffmpeg?

Maybe this isn't the best thread to be quoting rules?

Thank all of you that contributed with good ideas. Now I'm home and tomorrow I'll do what I should have done if I would know: to bring a portable DVD player.
@Godofagap:
no I haven't and I will not do it on a company PC. I tried remuxing as such, converting the audio to MP2 and to MP3, and again remuxing. I also tried to go through other containers like TS or M2TS. No luck. Strange enough, WMP11 plays the elementary streams but not the mux. Maybe the ImagoMuxer is defective who knows?

My pleasure. I'm glad I helped.
