i was wondering if cutting an ac3 file with audacity and ffmpeg and save it to wav will lose quality? i mean after this it will be encoded with eac3to.it will be the same as directly cutten with delacut for example and then encoded with eac3to? of the ffmped decoder affects the quality of the source file?

Any decode/encode operation lose quality.

Direct cuts with DelayCut or other soft preserve always the original quality.

well since i allready need to convert the audio from 25fps to 23.976 i do need an encode. audicity helps me for better cutting inside the ep( not only op and ed) that's why i asked if it's looses quality more than a simple eac3to encode.

Encode to WAV whenever editing a sound file inside of an editing program like Audacity or Adobe Audition (my personal preference). Then encode the WAV to whatever destination format with eac3to.

i just figured it out that after i decompress the ac3 to wav with eac3to and adjust it with audicity and save it to 24bit wav, it remains untouched only added +/- delay.
