Is there a way to fix this flickering?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way using avisynth to get rid of this flickering or at least reduce it a lot more than what it is now? I have attached a very small video clip, watch the troopers eyes.

Start from scratch again, but this time without messing-up the IVTC.

If that's not possible, then you need a very good explanation. ;)

Thanks so much for the response, but there was no IVTC, I used force film when I ran DGIndex and it was at like 98% film.

Okay. Looking closer, it seems more like ... truly a problem of the source. There are no signs of field mismatch and/or residual combing. Even in those frames where some detail is "off", the other remaining parts of the same frame are clean. Some of those frames appear to be a bit too soft, that's all. That doesn't explain the unstable presentation of detail. (The thin white stripes in the grey stripes on the pillars are same bad, e.g.)

Is this from a "digitally remastered" version?

(If so, perhaps the "master" should be effaced ... "digitally overhauled" surely would make a big seller.;) )


Edit: wait, looking closer at the later part of the sample: in frames 93-97, the trooper's eyes definetly show wrong fields blended together. But *only* the troopers' eyes. *Not* Leia in the background, though she's moving too. And some minor residual blend-artifacting on the structures to the left of the left trooper.

All in all, I don't see an obvious/easy way to fix this. Of course, one could force some "temporal straightening" by using brute-force methods. But overall, that surely would do more harm than good.

it is actually the Bonus DVD that came with the Star Wars Trilogy a few years ago, I am trying to clean it up and make it anamorphic the best I can using a friends script along with other tweaks, but just don't like that flickering LOL, looks like they are blinking, but the source is 4:3 letterboxed DL DVD, so is there nothing that can be done with this? it is on the source DVD as well.

I've ripped those bonus discs before. You should definitely not use force film. Honor pulldown flags and then use TIVTC or Decomb. Also, they are fully BT.601 compliant, so when resizing, remember that the disc's AR is 1.363636.... not 1.33333....

Thanks Lyle, I tried that and the blinking is still there, so I assume there is nothing that can be done about it, must be a problem on the source that can't be fixed.
