I have been getting Netflix movies for several years. Now they want to switch me over to downloading them and not mailing.
Now I have been told that I will need to go out and get a Wii so the movies can be downloaded and then fed into my TV or monitor.
Is there another option besides buying a Wii. Can I use my computer?

"Netflix offers Internet video streaming ("Watch Instantly") of selected titles to computers running Windows or Mac OS X and to compatible devices."

I understand the streaming video but can I watch it later on? I was wondering if once I download the video I can then watch it on my computer anytime?
Do I need to be connected to the internet when I watch it later?

1) No, only streaming
2) because of one, yes you have to be connected to internets
Besides being on computer Netflix is also available on xbox, ps3, some hardware players, and some bluray players.

You can continue to get them by mail. Netflix is not discontinuing discs or forcing anybody to switch to stream only.

Who told you that? Netflix still ships discs, and you get the streaming service for free with disc rental plans. If you want to stick with discs there shouldn't be any reason you can't.
If you do want to switch over to their online service (or just use it while continuing to get discs), you certainly can use a computer or any number of other devices, including the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, lots of Blu-ray players, some TVs, and some internet connected set-top boxes. I do most of my Netflix streaming with an old computer and Boxee. I've also used a Wii for streaming Netflix and find the interface to be pretty kludgy, which is no surprise considering it uses a standard Wii controller instead of a traditional remote.

I know I can still get the disks via mail. What I was hoping was I will be going on a long trip and was hoping I could down load several onto a laptop, and and then watch them latter when I dont have internet access. What I found out last night was streaming is just what it says "streaming" it does not store the movie on my hard drive so i could access it later.

@LARRYB
Hi! Does anyone know of a video capture program that could grab the streaming video and store onto a hard drive? That's not an appropriate question to ask at the Doom9 Forums.
You can always purchase a downloadable version (or the discs) from NetFlix or Blockbuster...

As Vurbal said, many devices can stream Netflix. Who recommended a Wii? That is probably the worst device for video and would be my last choice, unless you like VGA (640x480) video.

If you go to Netflix website they suggest devices to use for video streaming.Wii, Xbox, PS2 along with some DVD players.
