Anybody knows where to find up-to-date Win32 builds of FFmpeg?
http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/autobuilds seems to be dead :(

Yeah, but these are even older than the ones on the autobuild site (26400) ...

OK, now I think I'm beginning to understand it all:
FFmpeg development has moved to a Git repository, and the SVN repository is no longer updated. The last revision committed to SVN was r26400 on 2011-01-17. The SVN repository may be removed in a near future, so you're recommended to use the Git repository instead.

Yeah I know. But on http://www.ffmpeg.org there are no compiled builds, right?

So, until someone wants to setup and run a new site for the ffmpeg autobuilds, we the end-users must take the time to compile ffmpeg ourselves -.-

I think that autobuild will restart if middle of March comes.
Ramiro was said at the end of last year, "I take a rest until the carnival ended".
Because ffmpeg was stopped subversion and shifted to git, new scripts are necessary for autobuild system to get the latest codes.

This is my ffmpeg build.
The update frequency is about once every three days.
When Ramiro returns, I will stop this.

For use in REAPER (www.reaper.fm) the DLLs are needed.

Even when Ramiro returns, it seems he will not be restarting the autobuilds.
See here (http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1667):
[question: is there any chance you will ever resume it?]
Not with the current situation.
But once someone else fills in the void and starts providing their own automated builds I will point to the better alternative.
Are you the one to fill in the void, Chikuzen? :)

Maybe some required switches are not set in your compiler?
There is no big difference in ramiro's and mine.
The cause might be due to a recent change of ffmpeg, or compiler that I am using.
Anyway, it might be only the developer of REAPER that it is interpretable.

Are you the one to fill in the void, Chikuzen? :)
hmm…to my regret, it is no :(
I will continue this for a while. but I also will stop it in several months.

We need Linyx to write a guide to
"compiling FFmpeg on Windows". :)
So far, my minimalistic MSYS+GCC environment works fine for building x264,
BUT it's not complete enough for compiling ffmpeg. :(

Ok, I've entered it into their bug tracker too: http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=3246

Have you used toolchain that xhmikosr redistributes (http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/index.php?folder=dG9vbHM=)?
his toolchain includes all components without msysgit to compile ffmpeg and external libraries.
The exception is only OpenCV and fei0r.

I have just tested it, five minutes ago.
As usual, a truck-load of warnings and one "fatal" error,
which of course aborted the compilation process -.-

FFmpeg team abolished libavcore before an hour.
http://git.ffmpeg.org/?p=ffmpeg.git;a=commit;h=737eb5976f6a37703923ce3c3d5e6ca8eeabb43a
@Dstruct
I’m doubting that the cause of the crash of REAPER is libavcore because it didn’t exist when ffmpeg0.61 was released.
Please test my latest build.
The problem might be solved.

is there any chance for x64 build??

oh, x64 build...
Can you accept following conditions ?
External libraries will be limited to three (libx264, libmp3lame, and libvorbis).
x64 build of ffplay/ffprobe will not include.
Static build only.
If these are accepted, I will build it from next time.

I can't understand the necessity of 64bit-ffprobe at all.
The information obtained by 64bit-ffprobe is quite the same as by 32bit (it is a bug if there is a difference).
Do you have any proposition that is more attractive for me than saving of total filesize/compiling time?
And some of the external libraries that can be used by ffmpeg are not able to compile on mingw-w64 without problem.
I will not redistribute 64bit-ffplay as long as it doesn't come to be able to compile SDL on mingw-w64 without trouble.

ok...thanks for you comment
i don't need ffprobe...i just need ffmpeg & ffplay
and of course ffmpeg is more important
still wait for your build

P.S:what mingw package you use(xhmikosr,xvidvideo.ru,...)??
can you make a tutorial for compiling ffmpeg??

Because there are several people who started the redistribution of the binary of ffmpeg for windows, I will stop updating and delete all my builds tomorrow.

when encoding using the cli (command line interface) i see 'Size=####### kB' output
Reading wiki this seems to be incorrect. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte)
The unit symbol kB is commonly used for kilobyte, but may be confused with the common meaning of kb for kilobit. IEEE 1541 specifies the lower case character b as the symbol for bit; however, the IEC 60027 and Metric-Interchange-Format specify bit (e.g., Mbit for megabit) for the symbol, a sufficient disambiguation from byte.
A bug ?
If so do please add it to the FFmpeg bugs tracker :)

What exactly do you think is a bug here? It displays the size of the file in bytes divided by 1024. So yes, It is slightly incorrect and should be KiB.
KiB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibibyte)
Could the code be written to use KB as the cli display default. Then very easy to look at file in folder (view details as many of us view the files) and see file size in an instant. Making easy to compare to cli encoder progress window. Since know exact value from the file from looking can judge progress so far and how many KB left to do. :)
Or have a % progress there and leave KiB as it is. Either way just need more feedback from cli to judge how near to finish encode it is, i look very often at this to judge. Not easy to do atm with KiB not KB or no true % progress.

Yes, it is trivial to modify the that code (ffmpeg.c:1421). And no you couldn't have a progress report because ffmpeg fails to know how long a file is. The current position, in seconds, is printed though and the current frame.
Time also need to be converted people don't think time in seconds, they think it as hh:mm:ss
Proposed Changes
Size to be shown as KB
Time to be shown as HH:MM:SS
So user doesn't need a conveter to know what the encoder cli shows

ffmpeg_movie.c:169: error: 'CODEC_TYPE_AUDIO' undeclared (first use in this function)

thanks for "help"
i got version 0.8.1 to compile on osx 64-bit but there is a certain combination of flags that break other libs, since no one offered any help to me, i'll offer no help back.

Some current ffmpeg builds (e.g. those by Kyle Schwarz) implement an AAC encoder from VisualOn (http://www.visualon.com/english/Products/VisualOnsoftwarecodecs.htm), supplier of encoding software for Google Android. But its licensing status is not certain, since it appears to be not much more than 3GPP reference code, as HydrogenAudio (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=88183) reports.
Nic released a demo encoder for Win32, but at least this build seems to create only LC-AAC (which sounds obviously lossy at 64 kbps) and rather ABR than quality-based VBR. So it is no big advantage compared to FAAC, and certainly not competing with Nero or QuickTime.
