View Full Version : MPEG-4 AVC to DVD transcoding

I've encoded some files to MPEG-4 AVC, AC3 in Matroska container (using 'avidemux'). I now want to transcode them (for someone else) suitable for playing on a DVD player.

I've tried 'Avi2Dvd', but whatever codec I select, the output is pretty bad - very blocky and pixelated.

I know the process of transcoding a 'lossy' format will result in some loss of quality, but I had hoped for better. What's the best way of doing this task, please?

To reuse the files you converted to MKV and not to use the encoded MKVs. Since you could encode them to AVC, you have all the needed codecs on the system, while a MPEG-2 encoder is nowadays on every computer.

Thanks, but I'd discarded the original captured MPEGs!

that's the problem of asking "what's best". best is subjective...
please read the forum rules (expecially the rule no. 12).
