View Full Version : Opening a video in Sony Vegas 7.0 and automatically adjusted aspect ratio?

For example, let's say I want to import an HD 1280 by 720 fps 29.97 video into Sony, I would have to create a new project with 1280 by 720 + fps 29.97 and then load the video.

With VirtualDub, I can just import the video and not worry about the aspect ratio and fps. Is there a way to do this with Sony Vegas?

Thanks in advance

In Vegas, Premiere, Edius, EditStudio: No.

Because NLEs try to accommodate different input formats in one project
the NLE has to ask you to specify the desired output settings.
The sources may have different resolutions and even different timebases.
If a "don't change resolution AND don't change fps" Project setting would exist,
the rendering result of differing sources may be unplayable on standalone devices that accept only one format thoughout a movie.

So NLEs will happily resize and in system conversion cases perform blend-conversion to match the project settings.
the first harming the frames a bit, the latter harming more seriously.

If one doesn't like the NLE to take care of this (and I don't like this as well),
one has to deliver the project's input files with already matching final resolution and timebase.

Here is where Avisynth solutions with tailored resizers and better conversions step in.
