Hi,
I realise you can be fed up with "where can I get codecs" requests, but I believe that I have already explored all the usal solutions.
By the way, I have latest ffdshow already.
The files I for some reason cannot play are all x.avi, G.Spot recognises them as
codec: avc1
name: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
and gives me:
status: Codec Status Undetermined

When I use MediaInfo, I get:
Format : MPEG-4
Format profile : Base Media
Codec ID : isom

Video
ID : 1
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L3.0
Format settings, CABAC : No
Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame
Codec ID : avc1
Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding

Audio
ID : 2
Format : AAC
Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
Format profile : LC
Codec ID : 40
Duration : 2h 1mn
Bit rate mode : Constant

Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : Front: L R
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Compression mode : Lossy

Since ffdshow did not work, I installed also divxh264decoder820 as well as CoreAAC-1.2.0.575rev3. It have not helped either.

Does isom mpg4 container also require some sort of "decoder"?

Never heard of it. Where did you get the file?

It is MP4 Base Media v1
IS0 14496-12:2003

http://www.ftyps.com/
http://www.ftyps.com/composite.htm#6.3

That I have found, but I cannot tell if it needs any special decoder. It should not, I think, then again files do not play.

If it's an ISO then try unpacking the elementary streams with Winrar, PowerISO, etc. and then remux to mp4.

Maybe I was a bit hasty with my reply.

You should probably post this here (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=74).

OK, thanks. I finally solved it. It turned out I needed so called "a splitter/parser filter".
First one in MP4's FAQ, "Gabest's MP4 Splitter" turned out to be just a Mplayer in some weird language, the second one though, Haali's Media Splitter, worked like a charm.
