Is it worth the time to encode using the slow/slower/placebo presets in x264?

Assuming a source is encoded with x264 CQ 22, one output with medium preset, the other with a slow preset.
Will there be a noticeable difference in quality?

It depends on how much time you are willing to spend, the quality of the source, how much energy you are willing to waste, which display device you are going to use, etc. - should I go on?

Where? On your phone or a 60' plasma?

How about you just try it yourself?

My source are mostly SD DVD, display device will include 42' plasma, PC/laptop and PSP.

I would of course like to minimize the time spent on encoding but produce an output of reasonable quality.

Tried it out and felt that the output encoded with slow preset is somewhat better.
However, I am afraid it might be prejudged and also, I don't trust my own judgement...:o
