most of the filters seem geared towards animation. i'm wondering if there is a guide to help me encode live action stuff. i'm wanting to encode my cosby, frasier, and seinfeld DVDs but haven't really gotten into them. are there many filter options or is it just a matter of more bitrate since there is more info on the screen?

i am still interested. if you can point me to a guide designed for live action rather than animation, that would help too. or if you know some filters which are better designed for live action.

You would have to show a sample, because filters are generally only used to fix things. If your source is fine, you won't have to do any filtering at all.

Not only that one needs to use filters only to correct certain defects, but each filter is more or less designed to correct a specific problem.
First identify whether the series have quality problems or not, then identify the problems ...
Remember, that most filters would lower the quality of a good source due to unnecessary corrections they do upon.

well, the first one i wanted to do was Ong Bak Thai Warrior (North American Release). I would give a video sample but the program i had was only a 10-day trial i guess. can anyone recommend a vob splitter that is free? that way i can give you a sample of this DVD and get some filter suggestions.

The Ong Bak I saw (a different one) was in need of some serious work.
Give us 10 seconds of steady movement. Open a VOB in DGIndex, use the [ and ] buttons to isolate the piece you want, go File->Save Project and Demux Video, and upload the resulting M2V somewhere for us to have a look.

edit: see post below for m2v instead of d2v
so far the only two filters i've thrown at it are pixiedust (still wondering if that's an outdated filter) and undot but i'm sure the results can be better.

i saw this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144271&highlight=8mm) and was amazed at what this guy did. any chance of reproducing something even close to this? or did he have an advantage by having actual film instead of a dvd?
