DVD video -> Video for Flash

Hello.


I have a DVD (PAL, 576i, 192 kbps AC3) that I'd like to convert into a format that a Flash player SWF (like the YouTube player) is able to play, so I can put it up on my website.

I think there are a couple of available options for container, video codec and audio codec.
MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) for the video and AAC for the audio seems to be a good choice. Please let me know if you'd rather use something else.
What container though? I understand the (most popular) options are FLV and MP4?


On to the important part... the encoding.

What's the best way to do this? DGIndex, AviSynth and finally MeGUI for the encoding process?
What about the resolution of the video? Can I just use a custom resolution (no mod16 or whatever)?

Would be cool if there was a best practice guide or something like that?

Flash 9.115+ can use standard H.264/AAC/MP4 files. I don't know that there are any best practices specific to Flash playback versus other web video technologies.
