I updated to the new virtaldub-release, and now, even after reinstalling both, "ffdshow" isnt shown anymore under "Video>compression". During the ffdshow-install i always checked the option to include virtualdub.
I used this way to encode my vids with h264.

You probably selected the VirtualDub plugin. That is a processing filter, not an encoder. You also need to select the VFW interface in the ffdshow installer.
However, if you want to encode H.264, you should not use ffdshow. The H.264 encoder was removed recently, and it is buggy in the older versions. You should install the x264VFW codec instead.
Also, putting H.264 in the AVI container is considered to be a bad practice. So it is recommended to remux to MP4 or Matroska afterwards.

Well, virtualdub can only export to .avi. Is there any freeware program, which has the same capability and is able to export to something else like mp4 ?
What i mean with capability.. I use virtualdub to process rendered single images into a movie and in the same run encode it. I dont know any other freeware program that can do that.. :(
And this x264VFW is even better than the h264 in ffdshow?
For my initial problem: I solved it, it was caused by a mix-up of 32-bit and 64-bit, but i would be thankful if you could answer my new questions.
cheers

Yes, x264VFW is better than ffdshow.
