View Full Version : Matroska format vs. Aspect ratio, especially on SPlayer

Hello,

I'd like to make clear in this format splitting, possibly on system level which most players use.
I have bad experiences with proper rendering this format 16:9 on Windows XP(32bit), using SPlayer, while on Win7(64bit) and the same HW, same player renders the same video with correct AR. This points me to that SPlayer (and most of others) doesnot use own but relies on system filters to parse and maybe decode the video.
While I know that the Haali splitter is considered to handle this format correctly, I have installed it on both mentioned systems, but it doesnot seem that SPlayer uses it on either OS as the Haali notify icon isnot shown during playback, moreover regsvr32 SPlayer\haalis.ax didnot make any change in splitter priority, the worse Splayer lacks any ds filter management, infos, I think it uses DXVA decoder, not DS as this is displayed by ffdshow.

Sooo what makes the difference that on XP it gets bad AR, while on Win7 not? And is there a way to setup matroska files being rendered with correct AR on any OS/any player?
TIA for information.
