Finding the audio to video out of sync delay ?

Hi all,

I am trying to sync the H264 video track with the AC3 audio track of a badly synchronized MKV movie.

By watching the movie, I can guess that the sync delay is growing linearly from the beginning to the end so what I have to do is shrinking the audio so it eats the out of sync delay.
I know how to do this with MKVMerge.

Problem: MediaInfo tells me that the audio has already the same length as the video so I have to find it manually by watching/listening the movie.

Because trying and trying and trying to mux by increasing/decreasing the stretch ratio (MKVMerge) would take me a while:

* Do you know a faster method to do this ?

* Is there a tool which could allow me to find the delay quite quickly ?

Hi!

If your original source material (presumably a Blu-ray disc) is not out of synch, simply use MakeMKV to both rip and convert it to an .MKV...

I do not have the source anymore.
Anyway, I found out how to get rid of this out of sync delay.
I ran Media Player Classic and tried several values for "View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> Audio Switcher -> Audio time shift (ms)"

The great advantage is it can be done while playing the movie so I do not have to lose a lot of time remuxing at each new try.

So I found that my audio was starting 100 ms too earlier and was linearly decreasing to -400 ms (end of the movie).

With MKVMerge, I could shift and skrink the audio so it matches the video and I now have a synchronized movie :-)
