View Full Version : BD-R/E DL layer break

Are there any limitations in establishing the layer break position, like it was the case with the DVDR DL? I mean, when reauthoring a BD50 into a BDR25 or BD50 -> BDR50 (but with less languages) ...

I'm too poor to buy BD-R DLs. ;-)
Have you tried asking your question on the ImgBurn forums (http://forum.imgburn.com/)? I bet somebody there would know--at the very least the author of the program should know.

Thanks to both links, I've learned that
As Steeb says, Blu-ray doesn't have layer break pauses like DVD does. The players all use frame buffers to play through the layer changes seamlessly.
and
You can't move the LB on BD media.
That means the position is fixed and this does not have any impact on players/readers.

Speaking of Blu-Rays, it's too bad mkisofs still doesn't have a
"-bd-video" option :( Heck, it doesn't even know what is UDF 2.5 :scared:

FYI: I think some of the info on that Bluestreak page may be specific to that authoring software and not general BD-Video requirements. For example, "This also leads to the restriction that no single file can be larger than 25 GB." I have several Blu-rays with single .m2ts files well in excess of 25GB.
Edit:
This post by LightningUK, author of ImgBurn, appears to show that the issue of layer break positioning on BD-DL is a moot point: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6402&st=60&p=87622&#entry87622
