Mpc-hc ac3/dts spdif lfe

Bear with me if I am too stupid to find the already questioned.
What exactly is the purpose of "LFE" in MPC-HC's Properties of the Internal AC3/DTS Filter?

I know that LFE is the ".1" Subwoofer-Channel in 5.1 and 7.1. And I also have a proper 5.1 Setup with a dedicated Subwoofer.
However, I do not know whether I have to enable or disable it to pass-through AC3 and DTS completely unchanged/pure.

Does LFE add something or is something missing if LFE is disabled?

if you set it to spdif, it overrides all the other settings so what you put for them is irrelevant afaik.
