@Moderators

Over the past year or so, I've observed that activation of attachments has consistently taken an inordinate amount of time (Two weeks, in one instance).

Is it possible to modify the forum software to add an automatic notification to all moderators when an attachment is included in a posting? If not, then perhaps advise all members that, when including an attachment, after posting, click on the "magic" triangle and type a short advice to the mods stating, "Please review attachment and, if appropriate, make available for viewing and/or downloading."

Hi setarip_old!

Thanks for your suggestion.

I can't speak for the other mods, or for doom9/swede, but here's how I see it: free file hosting services are plentiful and reasonably fast. Why burden doom9's servers?

Why burden doom9's servers?

Some attachments must be embedded in doom9, while others may be externally outsurced. A mod can decide whether the attachment deserves to be on doom9's servers or not - considering that some hosting hosts may run out of business or the file expired and stickies (to give an example) would suddenly have no pictures, software or presets any longer.

Why burden doom9's servers?

Are the servers really overloaded?

I'd personally vote to just allow attachments without prior control. I mean, is it really necessary? I still remember the time every forum was spammed with hardcorn porn pictures ... hosted on external picture sites.
What exactly are you trying to protect yourself from? With people switching to external hosts, valuable information in older threads gets lost over time.

@Blu_Misfit

Although I appreciate your suggestion regarding using alternative means, the fact of the matter is that presently the Forum offers/allows for directly posting attachments. Based on this, I believe my observation is valid and, therefore, should be addressed...

I would vote to have the option removed with content from stickies served from the forum server.
