I want to make a thread about discussing possible options for porting MPC-HC and ffdshow to the iPhone 4. Obviously a jailbroken device will be a prerequisite. Please add any comments and I request the devs from the MPC-HC and ffdshow teams to comment and start some discussion on making this a reality for millions of iPhone users.

ffmpeg already runs on iOS. It doesn't need to be ported.

Where can I find the latest version and with which players is it compatible?

MPC-HC is a DirectShow application, heavily based on Microsoft tech. There is no possibility of "porting".
I don't own an iPhone, but i'm sure there are already some ffmpeg based players. Not sure if ffmpeg supports hardware accel on the iPhones however, which might limit the ability to play some higher resolution videos.

DShow is M$'s technology, it is unavailable on iOS, so the port is impossible

VLC runs on the iPad. Dunno if it's installable on the iPhone, but I don't think it is.

Yes, there IS a VLC app for the iPhone too. Put it was pulled from the AppStore today. So unless you downloaded it until yesterday, you're in bad luck.
I don't think it's hardware accelerated, though. For HD content is seems better to convert to compliant H264 + AAC and use the iTunes player.
Oh yeah, the iPad variant is also pulled.
