I have a lot of videos ripped from dvds (I remember that for the first rip I used divx 3), mostly tv series, now I need to reduce the size of the files, I am trying to found optimal parameters using the information that I can get from tools like media info, for example if my file has a codec x and a bitrate y, re-encode to x264 using profile 3.1 (all of them are SD) with a bitrate z, for the audio is easy, but for the video I haven't see any info about "bitrate equivalencies" for similar quality output video, and with this info write a bash script to reencode all, rip from dvds another time isn't an option for me because some of then are scratched and I have 60-70 ¿Can this be done?.
PD: If I remember well, I have used to encode the files divx 3,4,5 and xvid.
