No problem for me. Might be a "local" problem on your side

I had problems as well for some time.
Now it's back at http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page

OpenDNS (www.opendns.com) didn't help?
Google for a "free web proxy".

First of all you should check whether this is DNS problem or an actual connection problem.
In the first case switching your DNS server should be sufficient, in the latter case you'll need to use a proxy.
What happens if you try this from the command prompt:
ping avisynth.org

DNS isnt issue as I am able to resolve the IP correctly. I am unable to ping avisynth.org. I will try first contacting my ISP to figure out why I am unable to reach avisynth.org. If that doesnt resolve the issue then I will look towards using a proxy.

It is actually facing some problems. But not permanent down.
Avisynth.org server troubles -- temporary page
Database-driven pages are still down. The main avisynth.org wiki and the new MediaWiki are not working at all.
Look here for updates on server status: http://status.leafyhost.com/
These pages should work:
Download Avisynth @ SourceForge
Avisynth Filter Collection
AvsP home page
stickboy's avisynth stuff
TSP's plugins
vcmohan's plugins
MeGUI auto-update
After a couple of seconds it redirects the page to http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page

I dont event see the redirect page. I cant access mediawiki either. I am going to call my ISP over the weekend and yell at them.

I think the "redirect page" is how the Avisynth web-site currently looks (and it looks like this for quite some time now). The Wiki is working fine :)

Has this issue been resolved? My non-connection to avisynth.org mirrors the OP exactly. My ISP is Comcast. I can reach the site thru the hidemyass.com anonymizer but not directly thru Firefox or IE9. This problem has been going on for months now.

I have the same issue with Swedish ISP ComHem; it's been like that for a few months now. At the office (Telia) it works fine, and it also works fine if I use a proxy at home. No idea what's causing it though, it's not DNS related.

I can confirm that it looks still down from here (germany).
Are there any news what caused it and if the provider will fix it?

Almost 1 year later, it is still down for me. Ping seems to work just fine and downforeveryoneorjustme reports that it is up.
Someone knows how to solve this irritating issue? (My ISP is voo.be)

It works for me. Possibly blocked by your isp or a dns failure somewhere. Try changing your dns server or adding the following line to hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts in Windows XP and later)
173.236.193.255 avisynth.org
Like many sites avisynth uses virtual hosting, so entering the IP address alone will not work.
If you are getting stopped at the "server troubles temporary page" go to http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page instead. The temporary page is supposed to redirect you there.

Hum, the modif of the host file doesn't work. Maybe I have to reboot first, but I can't for the moment (a long h264 encoding will still requires 10 hours or so before completing!)
The mediawiki page doesn't work either: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
I'll try a free DNS tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks for the help!

From what you are saying, I suspect you have ISP filtering/proxy problems, rather than DNS/routing issues.
Try this :- From a CMD prompt do a "tracert avisynth.org"
You should get some output that looks like this :-C:\>tracert avisynth.org
Tracing route to avisynth.org [173.236.193.255]

This was a successful trace, it verifys that DNS and routing are working for me because the last line resolved to the correct target, i.e. apache2-pat.achird.dreamhost.com [173.236.193.255], avisynth.org's hosting service.

To further test your connectivity to avisynth.org you can use Wget (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm) with verbose debugging options.
Here is a successful fetch of the main index.html page :-C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin>wget -v -d http://avisynth.org/

The meta refresh token is the yucky magic that pushes a normal browser into the mediawiki pages.

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (Connection reset by peer)Yep you are being filtered.
Next question is where and by whom.
Check your AntiVirus logs to make sure it is not "protecting" you from visiting this site (false positive). You could also retry the wget with your AV temporarily stopped.
And put your IP address in http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso (http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso) to see if you are accidentally on their blacklist.
And of course check with your ISP.

Why can't they just get some real hosting in a country where IP addresses aren't banned by the block? It's not exactly a bandwidth-intense site.
IanB
1st March 2012, 00:20
@ramicio,
dreamhost.com is a real hosting company. And r0lZ is not ip block banned, he can trace route to the site and actually got connected but then got hung up on. That can happen from anywhere in the pipe, i.e. Local AV protection, transparent ISP proxy filtering, web host blacklist processing, etc.
AFAIK avisynth.org only filters wiki updates by blacklisting, not read access.

Thanks again.
I've tried to restore the initial (and minimal) HOST file (without the entries generated by SpyBot), and to turn off my Avast antivirus, but still no luck. Interestingly, when Avast is off, the problem is different. There are now timeouts when trying to connect.
