Vertical stripes on x264/MKV rips

Why are there vertical stripes on my Rips when I convert PAL DVD to x264/MKV???

It happens both when I convert with VirtualDub and MeGUI.

I can't see stripes in that sample. Either they are non-obvious or it's a playback problem.

Pick a frame from the same video and post a screenshot that shows the issue. Mark the stripes if they are hard to spot.

After closer examination, then comes the problem only when I play with MediaPlayer Classic.

Hi DVDBob!

I downloaded the source and took a look, it's entirely progressive, no possibility of interlacing issues (first thing that popped into my head when you said stripes). OK, it's CODED as interlaced, but the content is entirely progressive.

I then downloaded your H.264 in MKV encode, presumably made by MeGUI? It's perfect.

I'm definitely thinking you're having playback issues. Look into the thread suggested by Selur (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=153394).

While not my personal favorite media player, VLC is extremely useful as a "sanity check" since it doesn't depend on much else. You should be able to get clean playback in VLC. Once you've got that as a baseline you can start messing with MPC-HC and DirectShow filters etc.

What decoder are you using in MPC-HC? You can tell by opening the file in MPC-HC, and when it starts to play simply right click the video image, and go to "filters". You'll see a list of all the DirectShow filters involved in playing your media. Take a screenshot of that for us.

Also, what renderer is MPC-HC using? This can be found in Options under Playback -> Output. There's a list of renderers on the left (like VMR9, EVR-CP etc).

Finally, what are your system specs? Most relevant are your operating system, and video card.

Finally finally, take a screenshot of the issue so we can at least see it?
