Vobsub and Gordian Knot

Hi could someone tell me what is the function of Vobsub while working with Gordian Knot ?

For encoding subtitles into the video, I'd imagine (as opposed to keeping them as a sperate subtitle file).

I use AutoGK but it'd be the same idea. I generally don't bother with subtitles except for any forced ones (the type where someone will be speaking in a different language for a brief period). Often they're actually encoded into the original video anyway, but if not I encode them into the AVI myself.
