It's a good question :)

Thanks, and what is the answer?

You may be able to rip 3D titles with MakeMKV, for example, and watch them as 2D. There are currently no H.264 MVC decoders available for Linux, so 3D viewing is not possible.

That's not pretty.

Is it fair if my tv can convert to 3d?

Thanks.

But the autoconf task failed.

configure.ac:33: warning: macro `AM_SILENT_RULES' not found in library
configure.ac:33: warning: macro `AM_SILENT_RULES' not found in library
configure.ac:33: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_SILENT_RULES
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
See the Autoconf documentation.
autoreconf2.50: /usr/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1

I am using debian lenny and I can fixe the problem by installing packages from testing/squeeze.

Actually, I get this error:

./configure
...
checking for sigaction... yes
checking for vasprintf... yes
./configure: line 5447: syntax error near unexpected token `libavformat,'
./configure: line 5447: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(libavformat, libavformat >= 52.64.2, HAVE_LIBAVFORMAT=1, HAVE_LIBAVFORMAT=0)'

@newblu

I know nothing about Linux - and merely provided you with a link...

Ok, thanks for your help.

Nope. That's just the player part, which uses FFmpeg for decoding video files. FFmpeg doesn't have an MVC decoder yet.

There's no TV that can create stereo images from monoscopic video.

@nm

Hi!

I don't know what distinction you are trying to make. Click on the following link:

http://www.nongnu.org/bino/3d-videos.html

Among other things, it says: "Bino plays stereoscopic videos, also known as 3D videos." - and that's what the OP wants to do...

newblu wants to play 3D Blu-ray movies. That is, H.264 MVC video (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiview_Video_Coding). Bino doesn't support MVC decoding because FFmpeg doesn't.

If you have stereo spectacles, and video was encoded with the appropriate method, then you can watch 3d on every hardware :)

Sure, if you have anaglyphic video, but that's not the case here. 3D Blu-rays will be monoscopic without an MVC decoder.

I'd also argue that anaglyphic != monoscopic.
