BD drive as fast as it should be?

I'm not sure if my BD ripping is as fast as it should be, I had a LiteOn iHOS104 drive which is IIRC 4x. I thought if I buy a 8x drive ripping time will be half but it seems it's not that much faster. The new drive I bought is a LG CH10LS20. I'm ripping with MakeMKV in backup mode, maybe this mode is slower like AnyDVD would be for instance. It's not easy to find out exact speeds with MakeMKV as it seems as it don't show much useful info/statistics. Generally I'm rather clueless about ripping speeds so maybe somebody can give me a few tips.

I have the same drive and it is riplocked. patched firmware with MCSE (mediacodespeededit) will unlock it. Btw peak speed will be about in the middle for a dual layer disk.

Almost all BD drives are riplocked on purchase, custom firmwares can disabled it ;)

If I remember correctly, riplocked drives were specifically locked at exactly 2X...

You are aware, aren't you that the ripping speed shown in your screen capture is dynamic and can vary widely during the course of the rip - and thatMakeMKV is doing more than simple reading and writing (doing analyzing and converting for .MKV containerization as well).

As it was with the DVDs before, the RipLock acts only upon silvers, you can rip your BDRs at media+drive limitation :)
Not all drives can be "set free" now, but the situation will definitively improve in the future.

Have you now watched MakeMKV while it's processing titles, to see the varying processing rates? What's the highest speed you've observed?

I'm not sure if the one with x4.7 was the original one, I made 2 updates and lost track somehow.
